Recently, the Instagram social media account for rock band from the United States, Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP), @chilipeppers, uploaded a photo of their vocalist, Anthony Kiedis, relaxing while smoking a cigarette with two local Island residents. MentawaiWest Sumatra.
Kiedis was seen sitting flanked by two men known to be Sikerei or native Mentawai shamans. The post was immediately popular with Indonesian netizens who knew the location of Mentawai.

Head of the Mentawai Islands Regency Youth and Sports Tourism Office, Joni Anwar, confirmed the arrival of Anthony Kiedis to Mentawai.
Joni said that Kiedis was on holiday for eight days in Mentawai, namely from April 7 to April 15 2024. Kiedis was not alone on holiday to Mentawai, he came with two colleagues.
“It’s true that he was on holiday in Mentawai. He was in Mentawai for eight days, starting from the 7th to the 15th [April],” explained Joni, as quoted DetikSumutWednesday (17/4).
“He came with two of his colleagues. So, a total of three people in Anthony’s group went to Mentawai. I don’t know the identities of the other two people,” he continued.
He explained that Kiedis spent the holiday on Southwest Siberut Island. The 61 year old vocalist and his friends carried out various activities, from watching traditional Mentawai dance to surfing.
While in Mentawai, Kiedis was confirmed to be staying at a resort called Resort Botik, which, according to Joni, is the property of one of Kiedis’ friends.
“While he was in Mentawai, Anthony surfed and enjoyed typical Mentawai dances. Meanwhile, his location was on Southwest Siberut Island,” he said.
The Mentawai Islands have long been famous as the perfect place for surfing or surfing. In fact, Mentawai hosted a world-class surfing championship in 2016.
The natural panorama in Mentawai is also famous for being beautiful and still preserved. UNESCO has also designated the Mentawai Islands as a biosphere reserve.
There are four main inhabited islands in Mentawai, including Siberut Island, Sipora Island, North Pagai Island and South Pagai Island.
Apart from that, on Siberut Island there is also a natural forest which is a habitat for rare animals such as bokkoi, Mentawai langur, lilou, and simakobu.
Mentawai are also known to still strongly maintain their original culture, one of which is traditional tattoos which use completely traditional equipment and processes.
