There is a new helmsman in the Colombia U-20 National Team! This Thursday, May 2, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) announced through a statement the hiring of César Torres as the team’s new coach, who replaces Héctor Cárdenas, who served as strategist for the U-20 and U-20 teams. sub-23.

And he complements regarding the strategist’s career: “Torres began his career as a strategist in Centauros de Villavicencio (2007-2008), passing through clubs such as Universitario de Popayán (2012-2013 and 2013 to 2018), Deportes Quindío (2013), Alianza Petrolera now Alianza FC (2020 and 2023-2024), Jaguares FC (2021-2022), Cortuluá (2022) and Bogotá FC (2023). Professor Torres also served as technical assistant to Luis Alberto Suárez, Nelson Abadía and Arturo Boyacá.”
With the appointment of Torres, the rumors that placed Juan Carlos Ramírez, current U-17 strategist, in the position are put to an end. Although his experience in national teams placed him as the main candidate, the need to wait for his next results at the international level ended up discarding the idea.
Giovanni Hernández, with an extensive time in the Promotion Tournament in Colombia, and Lucas González, with good performances in the League with Águilas Doradas and América de Cali, had also been nominated for the aforementioned position.
César Torres takes over as national coach of the under-20 team, after his time at Alianza FC. In this team, he achieved the historic qualification to the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana, after the surprising victory at the Metropolitano de Barranquilla over América de Cali.
As the Federation announced in its statement, Torres has had outstanding work with young players. There stand out talents who have passed through the National Team such as Alexis Castillo Manyoma, Juan Camilo Portilla, Alexander Mejía, Gutavo Torres or Deinner Quiñones. Likewise, he empowered footballers who today appear in the first division such as Jhon Vásquez, Juan David Ríos, Edwin Torres and Israel Alba.
In the country he directed Universitario de Popayán, Deportes Quindío, Jaguares de Córdoba, Cortuluá, Bogotá FC and the aforementioned Alianza, on two occasions.
