The Cup, Strømsgodset | Åsen decided for Lillestrøm – high temperature in cup drama

STRØMSGODSET – SMALL STREAM 3–4 EE0:

It was 3-3 between Strømsgodset and Lillestrøm after 90 minutes in Thursday’s match from the 4th round in the cup. As a result, the teams had to go into extra time.

As the extra time drew to a close and it seemed to end with a penalty shootout, Gjermund Åsen suddenly appeared with his dangerous left foot.

Felix Va played the ball to Åsen, and the 32-year-old stuck the ball in the corner to huge cheers from the Canary fans and the LSK players.

Thus, Lillestrøm are ready for the quarter-finals of the cup. There they meet defending champions Molde at home.

High temperature and “silly” yellow cards

The temperature was high in Thursday’s game, and it got extra hot when the teams went in for the break after the first half.

Lillestrøm’s Marius Lundemo and Strømsgodset’s Herman Stengel smacked each other and were obviously arguing about something as the players walked towards the players’ tunnel. Shortly before, Lundemo made a penalty after fouling Stengel.

– They must be separated by judge Kringstad here. It is a violent butchery. The coach is inside and interferes. Stengel is furious at Lundemo here and it is reported in all directions, commented TV 2’s Peder Mørtvedt.

Lundemo and Stengel therefore had to be kept away from each other by both the referee and several players, who quickly gathered around them.

The teams eventually got into the dressing rooms without it developing into anything more than a verbal war, but it was clear that there was not a good atmosphere between Lundemo and Stengel.

There was less arguing in the second half, but at the same time there was some stoppage in the game for free kicks and yellow cards. The estate’s sports manager Jostein Flo thought it was unnecessary by judge Sigurd Kringstad.

– I think there are a bit too many blowings and silly yellow cards by the referee, it’s just effort and will and good intentions all together. So it has become a bit fragmented, he told TV 2 before the extra rounds.

Lovely goals

It was Lillestrøm who got off to the best start in Thursday’s cup match. In the 21st minute, Lundemo received the ball outside Godset’s penalty area, and then he simply bent the ball beautifully into the farthest corner.

TV 2 commentator Mørtvedt also questioned Godset goalkeeper Per Kristian Bråtveit’s involvement in the late goal.

– What is Bråtveit doing there? It looks like he thinks that ball is going wide based on the way he acts, said Mørtvedt while Bråtveit shook his head.

The next goal also went to the away team, and once again it was a magnificent goal.

LSK got hold of the ball after a corner was cleared, and it ended up with Eric Kitolano. He set the ball straight before blowing the ball up into the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, Strømsgodset reduced the deficit. Eirik Ulland Andersen received the ball the wrong way around in the box, before he turned around on a five-pointer and knocked the ball into the crossbar.

The goods were returned

Just before the break, however, the home team were to mess things up for themselves. Felix Va broke the ball right in front of Jesper Taaje and suddenly he was alone with Bråtveit. He dribbled past the goalkeeper before putting the ball into the open goal.

However, the drama in the first half did not stop there. One minute into overtime, Stengel was brought down by Lundemo from behind, and the referee pointed to the penalty mark.

Stengel took the penalty himself, and he surely put it in the goal. Thus, the teams went to the break at 2-3 after a frantic first half.

The goals did not flow to the same extent in the second half, but in the 69th minute Godset completed the recovery. Gustav Valsvik found Ulland Andersen, and he fired a shot. The field crawler went into the goal down in the corner behind Hedenstad.

As a result, the teams were the same distance, and there were no more goals during normal playing time. As a result, the teams had to go into extra time, where Gjermund Åsen became the big hero for Lillestrøm.
