The Calles Sierra Hospital of the IVSS in Falcón Under Fire for Irregularities
A recent intervention board at the Type III Hospital “Doctor Rafael Calles Sierra” in Carirubana, Falcón state has uncovered a multitude of irregularities. The intervention was prompted by an audit initiated by the Regional Fund in October 2023, which revealed serious issues including unauthorized appointments, unprocessed files, private companies conducting business with patients, malfunctioning of several areas, unqualified personnel in key positions, and doctors sending patients to private companies for surgeries. The intervention led to the resignation of twenty managers and staff, instead of the opening of an investigation.
The reaction to the intervention from some staff members has been virulent, with the resigned director Mayerling Yanes stating that the intervention was not an audit and was instead an attempt to cause harm to the hospital. The intervention board found expensive trauma equipment in the hospital, leading to an investigation of the Head of the Traumatology Department, Dr. Hugo de Jesús Zerpa Contreras.
The former director also mentioned that the intervention board found unprocessed files, which were the responsibility of Human Resources. The director accused the intervention board of attempting to split things up but failing to solve any administrative issues.
