The renovation of the Hilandara Monastery will last this year and the next in order for it to be rehabilitated after the fire that engulfed this sanctuary two decades ago, said the abbot of the monastery, Archimandrite Metodije.

Archimandrite Methodius says that the works will be carried out throughout this year, and part of the next year as well.
“The end is near because the scaffolding is still only on the last building that we are renovating, so architecturally it is seven inns. We have renovated the others, and the last one is the one where the fire started. So we will be working all this year and for sure for some time next,” Archimandrite Methodius told Tanjug.
He noted that due to the crises caused by the corona virus, as well as due to the economic crisis, everything did not go as planned, but that after 20 years, the end is in sight.
Archimandrite Metodije emphasized that the state of Serbia is the biggest benefactor and founder of the monastery’s renovation, especially since the adoption of a special law in 2021.
The most destructive fire on Hilandar broke out in the night between March 3 and 4, 2004, when 5,897 square meters or almost 55 percent of the usable area was destroyed and severely damaged.
