US Special Prosecutor David Weiss said he has arrested a former FBI informant accused of fabricating allegations that US President Joe Biden and his son Hunter were bribed with $5 million each from an energy company Ukrainian company, Burisma, for which Hunter Biden worked from 2014 to 2019. The former informant is called Alexander Smirnov, he was arrested on Wednesday in Las Vegas after returning to the United States from abroad and now faces up to 25 years in prison .
Smirnov’s arrest is an important development because the investigation approved by the Republicans last December to impeach Joe Biden, that is, to forcibly remove him from his government position, was based on his accusations.
Alexander Smirnov is 43 years old and is accused of making false statements and creating fictitious documents to direct the FBI investigation. In essence, Smirnov had claimed that Hunter Biden had asked Burisma for money to protect it from an investigation by the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office, exploiting, among other things, his father’s influence: the reasons why Smirnov lied, according to the prosecutor, were political and they would have had the aim of discrediting Joe Biden during the electoral campaign for the 2020 presidential elections, which he would then have won against Donald Trump.
