Solidarity contest in India, after the appearance on Twitter of the photo of a schoolgirl who has touched the whole country. The image, published by a minister of Manipur, Thongam Biswajit Singh, portrays a ten-year-old girl, Meiningsinliu Pamei, who at school, while attending classes, holds her little sister of a few months on her lap.

“The dedication of this child, who does not give up studying, but at the same time helps the parents who work in the fields, is an example for all of us”, tweeted the minister.

The image, shared thousands of times on the net, sparked a race for solidarity: one of the Manipur ministers made a commitment to personally finance Meiningsinliu’s studies; the student association Rongmei Naga Student Organization visited the family home and donated 10 thousand rupees (125 euros); the government sent social workers to provide supplies and place the girl and her parents in a support program for disadvantaged families.
