The happiest people live in Finland for the seventh year in a row. This emerges from the World Happiness Report, which was published on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness in March 2024. The report is prepared annually based on surveys by the Gallup Institute.
The researchers determined the feeling of happiness based on six key factors:
- Social support
- income
- Health
- Freedom
- generosity
- Absence of corruption
In addition to Finland, these countries made it into the top 10:
- Denmark, Iceland, Israel, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Luxembourg and New Zealand
The scientists emphasize that global average life satisfaction has remained just as high in the last four years as it was in the three years before the pandemic, despite several crises. Germany has significantly deteriorated in the ranking and is currently in 24th place.
