Eastern Europe bursts into the European Council this afternoon. The agenda, largely centered on the migrant emergency and on that of Covid, will in all likelihood be upset by two other urgencies that are assuming increasing political importance by the hour. That is the case of Hungary and relations with Putin’s Russia.
The approval in Budapest of a scandalous law against the LGBT community – the president of the EU Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, called it a “shame” – is becoming the subject of a real clash within the Brussels institutions.
