The Monster is back! Fluminense agrees to sign Thiago Silva — Fluminense Football Club

“Race, skill and vigor”. In December 2008, the tricolor fans sang at Maracanã what they would never forget. Today, almost 16 years later, the time has come to transform longing into reunion. Fluminense agreed this Tuesday (07/05) to sign Thiago Silva, Moleque de Xerém who became a legend of world football. Back home, the Monster signed with Tricolor until June 2026 and will wear his iconic number 3 shirt.

The player will arrive in Rio de Janeiro to join the squad led by coach Fernando Diniz in about a month, after the end of his contract with Chelsea, in England, and complete the procedures for his move. The defender will only be able to play in games for the club from July 10th, when the international transfer window will open.

Thiago Silva graduated from the youth teams of Fluminense, in Xerém, where he played from 11 to 18 years of age. After playing for some clubs, Monstro returned to Tricolor to finally defend the professional team, between 2006 and 2008, when he effectively built his idolatry among the fans. During this period, he won the 2007 Copa do Brasil title and helped lead Flu to the 2008 Libertadores final. Thiago Silva has 146 games and 14 goals for Tricolor.

World football legend

At the end of that season, he moved to Milan, in Italy, where he began to be recognized as one of the best defenders in the world. With the Rossoneri shirt, he was Italian champion and the Italian Super Cup in 2011. The following year, he was bought by Paris Saint-Germain, in France, a club for which he also became an idol. There, he was also a multiple champion, winning the French Championship seven times, in addition to lifting other important cups, many as team captain.

Thiago Silva signed with Chelsea in August 2020. It was while defending the English team that he won two of the main titles of his successful career: the European Champions League and the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.

Brazilian team, four World Cups and two Olympics

The defender also has history with the Brazilian National Team. His first call-up came when he was still playing for Fluminense, in 2008. From then on, he established himself as one of the team’s main names for more than a decade. Thiago participated in four World Cups and wore the Amarelinha captain’s armband in three of them: 2014, in Brazil; 2018, in Russia; and 2022, in Qatar. The number 3 won the Copa América (2019) and Confederations Cup (2013) titles. There are a total of 113 games and seven goals for the main team.

Thiago also participated in two Olympics, winning the bronze medal at the Beijing Games in 2008; and bronze in London, 2012.
