The portrait of the duke: plot

Is it ethically justified to steal a work of art for noble purposes? The portrait of the Duke, inspired by real events, attempts to respond to this delicate moral dilemma. Kenton Bumpton, an ardent supporter of social causes, spends his time in ideological, if often idealistic and bizarre, battles. His family, made up of his wife played by Helen Mirren and two children, lives in the poignant memory of a third daughter who died prematurely. While his wife works as a housekeeper to support the family, Kenton engages in initiatives that aim to improve the world, albeit with unconventional methodologies. The event that upsets their peaceful existence is the theft of Goya’s famous painting, “The Portrait of the Duke of Wellington”. Kenton suddenly finds himself caught up in the clamor of an act that shakes the foundations of their ordinary life. This episode, however, becomes an opportunity for the family to find each other and better understand Kenton’s heart and mind. Will his wife be able to overcome her initial skepticism and find an understanding with her husband’s idealistic spirit?
