The U.S. ambassador to Russia will return to Moscow this week and remains committed to opening up channels of communication with Russia

US State Department spokesperson Price said on the 21st that the US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan will return to the Russian capital Moscow this week.

Price said at a telephone press conference that day that Sullivan will return to Moscow this week and that the United States is still committed to opening up communication channels with Russia in order to enhance the interests of the United States and reduce the risk of misjudgment between the two countries. He also welcomed Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the United States, back to Washington, the capital of the United States.

Since U.S. President Biden took power, the United States and Russia have achieved limited cooperation in the field of arms control. However, there have been obvious differences and intensified confrontation on issues such as Ukraine, cyber security, human rights, and election interference. In March of this year, Biden made a negative comment on Russian President Putin, and the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled Antonov in the same month.

After the United States announced large-scale sanctions against Russia and expelled 10 Russian diplomats in April, Russia suggested that Sullivan return to the United States and discuss the development of US-Russian relations with US government officials. Sullivan then returned to China.

When Biden and Putin met in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16, they reached an agreement on the return of their ambassadors to their countries. The Russian Embassy in the United States said on social media on the 20th that Antonov returned to Washington to perform his duties that day.
