Sebin officials have reportedly detained Óscar Castañeda, a young man who gained viral fame for his statements during an event by María Corina Machado in Turén, Portuguesa state. The cousin of Castañeda, Rodolfo, took to social media to report that members of Sebin beat his cousin and want to accuse him of crimes of robbery and theft, despite the fact that he has been living out of the country for the last four years.
Vente Venezuela has demanded the immediate release of Castañeda, who is a member of the political party in Santa Rosalía. Castañeda arrived in Venezuela only 20 days ago, joined the organization, and spoke at María Corina Machado’s event. Journalist Nicmer Evans also reported that Sebin officials, along with local police, arrived at Playón, Santa Rosalía municipality and arbitrarily detained Castañeda without an arrest warrant, before transferring him to the Acarigia-Araure headquarters.
The situation has sparked outrage and demands for justice from various individuals and organizations, with many calling for the immediate release of Castañeda. The family and supporters of the young man are seeking answers and accountability from the authorities for his arbitrary detention.
