Djokovic: “I’m resting in the hotel with an ice pack”
The tennis superstar has now given the all-clear after the incident with the drinking bottle that hit him in the head at the tournament in Rome. “It was an accident,” he explains. “I’m fine, I’m resting in the hotel with an ice pack,” the 36-year-old Serb wrote on the short message portal X on Saturday night. The world number one was on Friday evening after his victory in the Masters tournament against the Frenchman Corentin Moutet was hit by the bottle and fell to the ground.
Videos show Djokovic signing autographs and a bottle falling on his head. Supervisors then took the 24-time Grand Slam champion off the court. Djokovic thanked X for the many concerned messages.
Drinking bottle probably accidentally hit Djokovic
The organizers of the tournament in the Italian capital officially announced that Djokovic had been treated with appropriate medication and had left the Foro Italico to return to his hotel. His condition is not worrying. A statement said that the drinking bottle had probably accidentally fallen on the six-time winner of the tournament and was not thrown at him on purpose. ■
