Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson in the remake of a hard-hitting action thriller by Clint Eastwood? – Cinema News

Tom Cruise has wanted to make a film with Scarlett Johansson for a long time – now, according to rumors, a remake could fulfill his wish. Of course, there would be an action specialist who Cruise would particularly enjoy being staged by.

Paramount Pictures / Disney and its affiliates

Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise – this has long been one of the great filmmaker-actor combinations in Hollywood. Action specialist McQuarrie Cruise has already starred in “Jack Reacher” and especially three “Mission: Impossible” films as well as the upcoming “Mission: Impossible 8”. In addition, Cruise always brings the Oscar-winning author for “The Usual Suspects” on board when scripts still need revision (for example in “Top Gun: Maverick”). Both are planning many more projects – one may now have leaked.

According to the portal GiantFreakingRobot, Cruise and McQuarrie want to remake the tough action thriller “The Gauntlet” aka “The Man Who Never Gives Up”. Clint Eastwood directed and starred in the 1977 original. This time the parts would be taken over by McQuarrie and Cruise respectively. The project is made possible by the superstar’s new partnership with Hollywood studio Warner, which envisages that many joint cinema projects will be tackled in the next few years. Warner has the rights to “The Gauntlet,” which paves the way for a remake.

Scarlett Johansson neben Tom Cruise in “The Gauntlet”?

In addition, several so-called scoopers are reporting that Scarlett Johansson is supposed to be the female lead. This would result in a collaboration that the “Mission: Impossible” star teased over a year ago.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter on the sidelines of the premiere of “Asteroid City,” Cruise described the actress as a real movie star who could do anything and captivate people to the screen. Even back then he said about a possible collaboration: “Yes, absolutely. That’s what’s going to happen!” The actress from Marvel’s Black Widow also revealed that she would like to do a film with Cruise.

The remake of “The Man Who Never Gives Up” could now be this joint film. In the original, Clint Eastwood plays a washed-up, alcoholic police officer who is supposed to bring a prostitute to Las Vegas to testify. The simple routine job turns out to be a hell of a trip. Because many parties have a great interest in ensuring that the witness does not reach her destination alive.

And the cop soon has to realize that he can’t even trust his colleagues and friends, but was deliberately chosen because his problems and his attitude to the job, which he has long forgotten because of his drunkenness, doesn’t pose a particularly big obstacle. But the bad guys didn’t take into account the fact that the old cop falls in love and the woman he’s protecting already knows how to defend herself well.

Is the Eastwood remake the mysterious R-rated project?

This may be a project that McQuarrie and Cruise have been hinting at for some time. The duo revealed a while ago that after completing “Mission: Impossible 8” they would start a film that would surprise the audience. It will not be aimed at the large blockbuster mass audience as much as the action franchise. Instead, it’s a really rough, tough action thriller with an adult rating of R. “The Gauntlet” would fit that description very well.

What is important, however, is that there are still no official statements about this. Everything can currently be viewed as a rumor.
