TRACTOR PROTEST Uggé (FAI): “Without discussion it could expand into other sectors” – Current affairs

The farmers’ protest, which started in Germany and France with tractor blockades, has also spread to some areas of our country.

The national president of the Fai (Federation of Italian hauliers) Paolo Uggè warns: “It could expand to other sectors”.

“The lack of discussion and listening is certainly at the origin of these initiatives which must be prevented – explains Uggè – Once triggered, the difficulties of managing them become stronger every day. A risk that cannot be underestimated, even in Italy, where, especially in some areas, harassment occurs against hauliers such as failure to recognize safety costs, delays in payments and increases in the costs of maritime freight”.

“Fai-Conftrasporto launches an appeal to the government to initiate the discussion that only a resumption of consultations can bring about – continues the president of Fai-Conftrasporto – We note with satisfaction Minister Salvini’s decision to convene the parties for next 7 February : it is the right way to restart a dialogue that has failed in the past.”

“A dialogue which, if not resumed, would make any attempt to manage a protest that could arise in some regions complex – insists Uggè – I am thinking for example of Sicily, where road transport operators are also burdened with the environmental costs introduced by the European Union on armament, forced to pour them into the supply chain”.

“Farmers, direct growers, shipowners and hauliers are the victims of a ‘certain’ European policy imbued with false environmentalist theories which end up damaging the entire economy of the country”, concludes the president of the Federation of Italian Road Hauliers.
