The Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN), a collaboration between the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), is responsible for reporting seismic activities in Puerto Rico. With a network of 25 seismometers spread throughout Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands, the PRSN records ground movements caused by earthquakes to determine their location, magnitude, and depth.
In addition to reporting seismic activities locally, the PRSN also shares earthquake data with the USGS National Earthquake Information Center (NEIC). The NEIC serves as a global earthquake monitoring center, collecting and distributing earthquake data from around the world. On their website, the NEIC provides a real-time map of earthquakes that have occurred in the last 24 hours.
Through this collaboration and network of seismometers, the PRSN plays a crucial role in reporting and monitoring earthquakes in Puerto Rico and the surrounding areas. Stay updated on earthquake activity by visiting the PRSN and NEIC websites for the latest information.
