The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) will hold, this Tuesday 7th, the election to choose who will occupy the position of president of the Court. The chosen one will replace minister Alexandre de Moraes, current head of the court.
This Tuesday’s vote, it is worth noting, will be symbolic and follows the court’s tradition of taking whoever holds the position of vice president on that occasion. According to tradition, therefore, the minister Cármen Lúcia should be elected. She is the current number 2 on the TSE.
The change of position will be officially made at the beginning of June, when Moraes leaves the post of president. Until then, a kind of transition between ministers is planned.
The minister, it is important to emphasize, will be responsible for leading the conduct of this year’s municipal elections, scheduled for October. The election is the first with new rules on the use of artificial intelligence and the promotion of digital content in the campaign.
This Tuesday’s election at the TSE should also confirm the name of the new vice-president of the court. The chosen one, in this case, tends to be Kassio Nunes Marques.
Minister’s history
Cármen Lúcia was president of the TSE between 2012 and 2013. On that occasion, she became the first woman to hold the post. This Tuesday’s election therefore marks a return.
Graduated in Minas Gerais, the minister occupies one of the seats allocated to the Federal Supreme Court in the Electoral Court. She arrived at the STF in 2006 on the recommendation of Lula (PT). At the time, she replaced minister Nelson Jobim.
