Viennese eyewitness
The Viennese Raoul Korner experienced the earthquake in Tainan and thus in the southwest of Taiwan. A message with a warning came to the cell phone in the morning before it “started” about a minute later. In the sixth largest city on the island, the tremors reached magnitude five. To his knowledge, no buildings were damaged here, said Korner.
He was “at home on the 24th floor” and “was rocked back and forth quite a bit in bed,” said the Viennese, who has been working as a basketball coach for the Tainan Ghosthawks since the end of January and turned 50 on Tuesday. That was “adventurous” and you could get “really seasick,” said Korner. A video shows how a lamp in his apartment shakes violently. He had “no big decorations,” so nothing could fall down. The trainer suspected that pictures or vases had already been “thrown down” by the vibrations.
