Two arrested for the murder of a Cuban doctor in Las Tunas would have confessed to the crime

At least two people have been detained in Las Tunas for the murder of Cuban doctor Iván de Prada Silva, who was killed last weekend in the municipality of Puerto Padre. Sources close to the case told the independent media CubaNet that the two arrested individuals have confessed to the crime, although details remain to be specified.

“The confession, by itself, does not constitute evidence, which would have to corroborate the statements of those confessed, and reconstruct the facts, adding everything to the result of the autopsy and the criminalistic experts that come,” explained lawyer, writer, and independent journalist Alberto Méndez, who resides in the municipality where the events occurred. The death of Dr. Iván de Prada Silva has caused great commotion in Puerto Padre, where dozens of people have bid him farewell.

“The Puerto Rican health community is in mourning upon learning, this morning, of the death of Doctor Iván de Prada Silva, who in life had a rich professional career, as a doctor and as an outstanding cadre, serving in high positions in the organization,” said official profiles.

Iván de Prada was a doctor by profession who spent most of his career in management positions in Public Health institutions. He became municipal director of Public Health of Puerto Padre in 2013 and served in the direction of the Rafael Left polyclinic. He was also part of the so-called medical missions in Venezuela and Bolivia. The murder of Doctor Iván de Prada Silva has shocked the community and left many grieving over the loss.
