**US Troops Injured in Rocket Attack on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq**

A U.S. official confirmed on Saturday that at least two U.S. military personnel were injured in an attack on Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. The attack, which also resulted in a serious injury to a member of the Iraqi security forces, involved the launching of about 20 rockets at the base.

The attack on Assad Air Base is the latest in a series of about 140 attacks on U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Syria since the Israeli-Palestinian conflict began on October 7. It is considered to be the most serious attack thus far, with the potential for further injuries as military commanders continue to report on the extent of the damage.

Al Asad Air Base, located near the town of Baghdadi in western Iraq, is the second largest air base in the country and is primarily used by Iraqi forces, though it still hosts a contingent of U.S. troops. Yahya Rassoul, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, issued a statement confirming the attack and emphasized that the Iraqi security forces will investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Iraqi militia armed group, “Islamic Resistance Organization,” has claimed responsibility for the attack on Al Asad Air Base.

The United States, which currently has approximately 2,500 troops deployed in Iraq and 900 troops in Syria, has seen a total of 140 militia attacks targeting its troops in both countries over the past three months. Pentagon officials reported nearly 70 U.S. personnel injured in these attacks, which often involve a combination of rockets and drones.

The attack on Al Asad Air Base came just hours after Iran accused Israel of launching an airstrike on the Syrian capital Damascus, killing five Iranian military personnel, adding to the instability in the region triggered by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In response to the ongoing attacks, Jeanne Hennessy-Plaschaert, the UN Secretary-General’s special representative for Iraq, warned that Iraq is at risk if the attacks continue. She emphasized the need for all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent further destabilization of the country.
