  • Lithuania will allow Russian goods to transit, after EU ok

Lithuania will allow Russian war-sanctioned goods in Ukraine to transit its territory to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said last night, reversing its policy on the basis of the new guidelines of the European Commission. The international media reported it. “Removing restrictions on a certain range of products transported by rail is a demonstration of realism and common sense,” said a spokesman for the Lithuanian foreign ministry. The governor of Kaliningrad, Anton Alikhanov, wrote on Telegram that the new EU guidelines are “only the first necessary step” to resolve the stalemate: “We will continue to work for the complete removal of the restrictions”.

Russian and separatist troops of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) claim to have entered the city of Siversk, in the Ukrainian southeastern Donetsk Oblast. This was reported by the Russian agency Tass. “The city is under our operational control and sweeping operations are underway: Siversk will soon be completely liberated from Ukrainian troops,” says a source of the LPR troops. British intelligence said yesterday that “Russia will probably be able to take several small towns in Donbass over the course of the week, including Siversk and Dolyna.”

  • Czech Premier, new EU sanctions will not include gas

Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Wallflower, said the European Union will not include Russian gas in its seventh round of sanctions against Moscow over the war in Ukraine. It was reported on Kyiv Independent, citing international media. According to the Czech premier, the EU will not further reduce gas imports from Russia as too many member states could not adapt quickly enough to a new cut. The European Commission should be ready to present the seventh package of sanctions against Moscow in the coming days, Fiala added.
