The CSU politician died on Monday morning at the age of 84 in a Munich clinic, as the Bavarian state parliament announced. State Parliament President Ilse Aigner called Glück a “reconciliator”. It was never about himself, but he was always able to convince people with clever arguments and foresight.

Aigner also praised Glück as an exceptional politician who had made a name for himself as a thought leader and pioneer for decades, especially in environmental and social policy. Sustainable development of rural areas and at the same time the protection of nature – this is what he has always advocated and at the same time he has relied on innovation. “Due to his straightforward and balanced nature, Glück was always a sought-after mediator when it came to bringing together different opinions and views into a good compromise.”

Alois Glück has been a ZdK member since 1983

The trained farmer from Chiemgau was a member of the Bavarian state parliament for 38 years. He was a member of parliament from 1970 to 2008; From 1988 to 2003 he led the CSU parliamentary group, then he was elected President of Parliament. Under Glück’s direction, the CSU adopted a new basic program in 2009. From 2009 to 2015 he served as President of the ZdK. He had been a member of the highest representative lay body of German Catholicism since 1983.
