King Charles III of England and the Princess of Wales, Kate, wife of the heir to the British throne William, have been discharged from the London Clinic. The sovereign has just returned from prostate surgery, while his daughter-in-law spent 13 nights in hospital after a delicate abdominal surgery of an unspecified nature. Now she will have to spend about three months of convalescence at rest. Carlo, on the other hand, was in hospital for three days after having been subjected to a a routine operation to the prostate.

Kate left the hospital discreetly, without appearing in public or revealing any images. In a brief note released by Kensington Palace, the official residence of the Princes of Wales, it is stated that the princess is improving, but the indication of a long convalescence, for an indefinite period, during which she is expected to be absent from any dynastic commitment: convalescence which, at least initially, William’s wife will spend in a royal residence in Windsor, outside the city, more secluded than the one she usually occupies with her husband and three children (the princes George, Charlotte and Louis, of 10, 8 and 5 years) at Kensington Palace, in the heart of London.

«The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor – reads the statement – to continue her recovery from the operation, and is making good progress. The Prince and Princess would like to extend a huge thank you to the entire London Clinic team, especially the nursing staff, for their care. The Galles family continues to be grateful for the well wishes received from around the world.” Kate, as communicated the day after the operation, asked for maximum confidentiality regarding her conditions and invoked respect for privacy to also protect her children. Unofficial sources cited by the tabloids limited themselves to immediately ruling out cancer, even if this indiscretion was never formally confirmed by the palace.

In the meantime, in recent days the same tabloids have engaged in a whole series of conjectures, based on the hypotheses of specialists and doctors not aware of the medical records, on possible diagnoses compatible with the times indicated: from that of a preventive removal of the uterus, to that of a severe form of diverticula. According to what was declared by the court at the beginning of her hospitalization, the Princess of Wales will remain at rest, away from any public activity, at least until “after Easter”, which this year falls on March 31st. But the BBC today is even more cautious and refers generically to “a few months” of convalescence.
