Universitario vs Junior: the ‘cream’ team tied 1-1 against the ‘shark’ on Tuesday, May 7, for date 4 of Group D of the Copa Libertadores 2024. The duel took place at the Monumental de Ate stadium.
The ‘merengue’ club added its second draw in the continental competition, reaching five points and provisionally occupies second place in the series standings pending the clash between LDU de Quito and Botafogo. Those led by coach Fabián Bustos were saved from defeat, but it was not enough for the comeback at home and they let two units escape.
The ‘rojiblanco’ opened the scoring 5′ minutes into the first half with a goal from Bryan Castrillón and then Edison Flores (24′) scored the tying goal after a great individual play by Andy Polo. The Colombians have six points and are in first place with two dates left to complete the group stage.
Universitario will face Sporting Cristal on Sunday, May 12 for date 15 of the Apertura Tournament. Then, they will host Botafogo on Thursday the 16th for the penultimate date of the Libertadores group stage. Meanwhile, Junior will be a visitor against Bucaramanga on Saturday the 11th for a local competition and will later visit LDU de Quito for the Conmebol competition on Tuesday the 14th.
