NEW YORK – A death row inmate, Richard Bernard Moore, got to be executed by firing squad rather than die in an electric chair or by injection. Moore is the first in the state of South Carolina to decide how to be executed. The man, a 57-year-old African American, had been convicted of the 1999 murder of a store clerk in Spartanburg. He was supposed to die by lethal injection in 2020 but the system had raised doubts about his cruelty. Moore has obtained to be killed by a platoon of three prison employees, who will use rifles, a modality that he brings back to the times of the Far West. The execution was scheduled for April 29.
