There are many things that can be discussed from the Chinese New Year or Chinese New Year which falls on February 10. One of them is basket cake which has become a mandatory food and is often sought after by many.
As felt by one of the basket cake producers from Cirebon, Veronica, who admitted that she is currently busy producing basket cakes due to the large demand.
At this year’s Chinese New Year, Veronica was flooded with orders for basket cakes from the Chinese community. In one day, thousands of basket cakes are produced to meet the needs of the 2024 Chinese New Year celebration.

“As Chinese New Year approaches, every year there are lots of orders, in one day I can make thousands of basket cakes with the help of my employees,” he said, Monday (5/2/2024).
This woman, who has been in the basket cake business for 10 years, also said that the majority of orders come from a number of resellers spread across almost all regions of Indonesia.
“Bakecakes are also a tradition, so I saw that they provide many benefits to many people, starting from resellers ahead of the 2024 Chinese New Year,” he explained.
He admitted that Chinese New Year always brings blessings. This can be seen from the number of people who are able to earn a living at his basket cake production house.
“I’m grateful that Chinese New Year brings blessings, dozens of people who are actually my neighbors also get good fortune. They can get money by helping make basket cakes at my place,” he said.
The woman who since 2014 has continued her family’s basket cake business said that the skill of making basket cakes has been passed down from generation to generation.
“Initially this production house was from my mother’s time and I continued the family business from 2014. Honestly, I can make basket cakes from my mother,” he explained.
After she managed it, from year to year Veronica’s basket cake business grew to the point where she was able to get many customers and resellers throughout Indonesia.
“Actually, basket cakes are made once a year and the quantities I make are mostly according to orders, especially to resellers to women who sell because they have the moment,” he said.
Basket Cake Prices
Cake Baskets made by Veronica are sold from IDR 76 thousand to IDR 280 per box depending on the size and flavor variant requested. There are five flavors of basket cake made by Veronica, namely original, strawberry, pandan, chocolate and cacao milk.
“If the price is adjusted to the flavor variants, the price will definitely start from IDR 76 thousand to IDR 280,” he said.
Even though it has many flavor variants, basket cakes with original flavors are often ordered by customers and resellers.
Veronica’s basket cakes are well known to everyone. The results of the basket cake production are sent to resellers both in Cirebon and outside Java such as Kalimantan.
Unique Packaging
In terms of packaging, the basket cakes produced by Veronica have their own uniqueness. Normally, basket cakes are packaged in a circle shape. However, this is different from the basket cake he makes.
Veronica chose a cone shape for the packaging of her basket cakes. Not without reason, he said, this form has its own philosophy so it can have quite a deep meaning.
“Basket cakes packaged in cones have a philosophical meaning as a prayer and a symbol of someone’s career getting better,” he said.
During Chinese New Year, the average demand can be 120 to 200 kg starting from D-10 Chinese New Year. However, in previous years the number of basket cakes produced exceeded this figure because there were still so few basket cake producers.
“Now that many people are making it and have their own markets, it’s natural that the amount produced is not as much as in previous years,” said Veronica.
