Victory in the “small” Graz derby: GAK remains on course for the Bundesliga

At the end of the 19th round of the ADMIRAL 2nd league, GAK celebrated a 1-0 away win in the “small” Graz derby against Sturm Graz II. After being excluded against Nelson, the superior league leaders were in the majority for almost 70 minutes.

The GAK is the team that dominates the game right from the start, especially attacker Michael Cheukoua repeatedly appears dangerously in front of goalkeeper Bignetti. In the 17th minute, the Cameroonian actually did everything right, went around Bignetti, but a clearing action on Scharmer’s line prevented him from taking the lead.

Sturm Graz II’s defense doesn’t always seem completely solid; in the 21st minute, GAK’s top scorer Maderner runs away from defender Nelson, who only knows how to help himself with an emergency brake. For this he is completely right to see the red card.

Despite being outnumbered, the half-time break was 0-0.

Captain Jovicic heads GAK to victory

In the second half the “Red Jackets” got serious. Just three minutes after the restart, the lead was achieved: a corner was extended into the center at the first post, where captain Jovicic headed in to take the lead (48′).

The superior league leaders remain in control, but are no longer able to score a goal. The young “Blackies”, for their part, can no longer make decisive gains when they are outnumbered, so the score remains at 1-0 for the guests.

With the victory, the GAK restored the old gap of eleven points to the first pursuer. Sturm Graz II, fourteenth in the table, is already just as many points behind the saving bank.
