by admin

In 2021, police killed at least 1055 people in shootings. This was revealed by a Washington Post statistic. It is a record figure since the American newspaper began tracking the number of fatal shootings by police officers since 2015. In 2020, the casualties were 1021 while the previous year was 999.

According to the Post, not much has changed since, following the killing of George Floyd in 2020, more than 400 legislative projects were introduced at the state level to address the problem of excessive use of force by agents. Floyd died after being immobilized by a policeman, who pressed his knee to his neck for about nine minutes.

The statistic also reveals that most of the people killed by the police were armed and 94% of the cases were men. About 14% suffered from mental problems. The states where he killed himself the most are New Mexico, Alaska and Oklahoma.
