Water leak, Kristiansund | The accident led to a water leak: – We are in the process of making repairs

– It was part of a sump that slipped out when the anchorings failed. There was an accident in connection with the ongoing work, which is due to poor construction work from before, says the department manager for water and sewage in Kristiansund municipality, Thor Hasselø.

– Fortunately, we don’t have to look for the leak, so we are in the process of making repairs, he continues.

A resident in the area got the water back on Friday afternoon, but:

– With that colour, it doesn’t look very tempting.

When applying water pressure after work has been completed, there may be a slight brown color to the water, Kristiansund municipality writes on its website websites.

– This is harmless, but feel free to let the cold water run until it is again shiny and odorless. The water can be used as usual when there is normal water pressure in the taps, the municipality writes further.

Hasselø does not have an overview of how many people are affected by the water leak, but he estimates that it concerns a small area at Midtberget and Furubakken in Rensvik.

– It is also difficult to say for sure when the leak has been repaired, but it will probably happen relatively quickly, says Hasselø.

Kommunalteknikk has been working on digging and repair work in this area of Rensvik for just over a month, when it was notified of an acute sewage leak in mid-November 2023.

And there is still a lot of work to be done before all of the drainage system works as it should in the Rensvik area.

– The plan was to replace two old basins with a new plastic basin that kept tight. The more we dug, the more we found. What we found was that the pipe system through the national highway had collapsed and needed replacement. It was at this point that we came to the conclusion that the work was much bigger than first thought, explained Lars Kristian Loe, VA engineer at municipal engineering in Kristiansund municipality, to Tidens Krav recently.

The project will improve the drainage in the area, and thus stop the ongoing acute pollution.

The repair work must be completed by Easter, and in connection with the construction work it will be necessary to have certain temporary closures and diversions on the municipal road network in the area.
