Nek and Francesco Renga arrive at the 2024 Sanremo Festival with the song Crazy about you. This is the first participation as a couple for the two authors, with a song written together with Diego Mancino, Dardust and Luca Chiaravalli. Last year the two authors were protagonists in the Suzuki Arena, in Piazza Colombo in Sanremo, with a medley of their historical songs: Yes Laura is not here ad Angelopassing through Come forward love e My most beautiful day in the world. While the last solo appearances are respectively in 2019 for Nek with the single I’ll be ready, while in 2021 for Francesco Renga. On that occasion he presented the song When I find you. The orchestra during its performance will be directed by maestro Luca Chiaravalli. Here is the interview with Francesco Renga and Nek.
How did the song come about?
Francesco Renga: We wanted to bring a song chosen by our daughters, because it tells of an adult, mature love. We felt the need, almost the urgency, to tell a story of pure love, as it should be, as it should be told. Unfortunately we too often witness narratives of wrong, toxic, self-destructive loves. So there was the desire to go back to singing about love like we did in those Sanremos that we watched in black and white: a song written for two beautiful voices.

Francesco Renga: His is written precisely with that sound that takes you back in time: a thoughtful narrative, from Maurizio Mari’s outfits, right down to the singing.
Where does this reflection on love come from?
Francesco Renga: The writing is meant for mature love. Maybe we have simply gotten older and we want and need to talk about a mature love.
For them: These are reflections of two people over 50 years old who make their considerations on the feeling that is real, the feelings towards which one simply must respect at all times. Otherwise you cannot say love: “Bend the knees of the heart” as Shakespeare says. We tried to put them to music and what came out, in our opinion, is a beautiful song to propose here.
How was the Nek-Renga project born?
For them: It was born from a friendship first of all and we would like to underline it because it goes outside the box of strategy. That is, the strategy comes later, it is the fruit of a bond. For us it is much more important than everything else. People feel this bond, they perceive it. The beautiful atmosphere we experience makes the atmosphere around the Sanremo Festival and everything that happens before going on stage, which is pressing, light.

Renga: We arrive after a beautiful, very lucky and very fun tournament.
For them: It’s actually a celebration of our artistic trajectories. I’m 40, he’s 30.

For them: Last year we were guests outside, this year they managed to welcome us warmly on the Ariston stage.
Renga: We willingly accepted. We had a song that he deserved, which thank goodness Amadeus liked. It couldn’t have gone any better than this.
