The Muotathal “weather forecaster” Martin Horat died on Saturday in Rothenthurm at the age of 79. He wrote his half-yearly forecasts for the “Innerschwyzer Meteorologists”, which were organized as a club, based on his observations of ants.

Horat became known throughout Switzerland. The Central Swiss local radio stations Radio Sunshine and Radio Central spread the news of his death on Sunday based on an interview with “Wetterschmöcker” President Josef Bürgler, as they announced.

According to him, Horat had been ill for a long time. The trained farmer and tool salesman gave his first forecast in 1987 at the meeting of the Muotathal weather prophets. Since then he has also appeared in commercials, among other things.

He gained great popularity over the years with the jokes and sayings in his forecasts. The “Innerschwyzer Meteorologists” association now has several thousand members. Hundreds come to the meetings at which the six “weather forecasters” present their forecasts to the audience’s great fun.
