On September 3, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked, what is China’s position on accepting Afghan refugees?
Wang Wenbin said that China has always handled related issues in the spirit of the UN Convention on the Status of Refugees and its protocols. We believe that the top priority is to promote a soft landing of the situation in Afghanistan, so that no new civil wars or humanitarian disasters occur in Afghanistan, and to avoid unnecessary casualties and large-scale refugees.
“At the same time, we also want to point out that relevant countries should be responsible for what they have done in the past 20 years, and cannot leave Afghanistan after a huge disaster, and transfer the responsibility to Afghanistan’s neighbors and the international community.” Wang Wenbin said.
