President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has made it official Red Edible Oil Factory in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra. The construction of the Red Edible Oil Factory is the first and is expected to provide good added value for palm oil farmers.
“This is the first time we are building the Makan Merah Oil Factory and we hope it can provide good added value for palm oil farmers, especially those who are in the form of cooperatives. So the price of FFB doesn’t go up and down because here everything is processed into finished goods, namely into oil eat red,” said Jokowi, Thursday (14/3/2024).
Jokowi admitted that he was happy with the existence of the Makan Merah Oil Factory. Because the selling price is cheaper than market cooking oil and has complete nutritional content. Jokowi hopes that people will also use the red edible oil product.

Red Edible Oil is oil obtained from refining without bleaching (bleaching) and deodorization, and through fractionation crude palm oil (crude palm oil or CPO) which is used as cooking oil, food raw materials, added to food, consumed directly as an additional nutritional intake, or as a fortifier for palm cooking oil and nutraceutical raw materials. This understanding is based on the Regulation of the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2023 concerning Cooperative-based Management of Red Edible Oil.
Quoting from the official Indonesia Good website, red edible oil is also known as refined palm oil. Red edible oil is a product of crude palm oil (CPO) which after the refining process does not continue with further processes.
Red edible oil has a striking bright color and strong aroma. The striking color of this oil comes from palm oil which is dark red in color. Because during the production process, red edible oil does not go through a refining or bleaching process like ordinary palm cooking oil.
Red Edible Oil Content
According to the Palm Oil Research Center (PPKS), as reported on the official website Ministry of Agriculture, red edible oil still retains its phytonutrient compound content, which includes carotene as a source of vitamin A, tocopherol and tocotrienol as vitamin E, and squalene. For this reason, red edible oil has the potential to be used as a functional food, namely as an anti-stunting food ingredient.
Oleic acid and linoleic acid contained in red edible oil function for brain formation and development, transportation and metabolism in children. Red edible oil can also be used to stir-fry food, salad dressings, raw materials for margarine and shortening, and so on.
