Leicester –
Leicester City lock in promotion tickets to the Premier League next season without ‘breaking a sweat’. This reminds the public of their Cinderella story when they became British champions eight years ago.
On May 2 2016, Jamie Vardy et al confirmed themselves as champions of the 2015-16 Premier League while relaxing watching the Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur match. The day before, they held Manchester United 1-1 and sat at the top of the standings with 77 points from 36 matches.
At that time, Tottenham was in second place with 69 points from 35 matches and had to win at Stamford Bridge in order to postpone the championship celebration for Claudio Ranieri’s team. Alas, they threw away a two-goal lead and were finally held 2-2 in an emotionally draining match.

As soon as the Cheslea vs Tottenham match ended, the Leicester players who had gathered at Vardy’s house immediately started celebrating. With 70 points, Tottenham will not be able to overtake Leicester in the remaining two matches. The celebration then went viral on social media.
Eight years later, something similar happened again. Even though last season they dropped to the Championship division, the Foxes only needed a year to return to the Premier League. This confirmation was obtained on April 27, WIB.
After beating Southampton 5-0 on April 23, Enzo Maresca’s team sits at the top of the standings with 94 points from 44 matches. Behind them is Leeds United who trail with 90 points with the same number of matches.
However, the 0-4 defeat that Leeds suffered from Queens Park Rangers in Week 45 on Saturday (27/4) WIB ensured that they would not be able to overtake Leicester on points with one game remaining.
In a video uploaded to Leicester’s social media account, the players can be seen partying after the QPR vs Leeds match ended. They repeated the scenario that happened eight years ago.

Even though they have confirmed promotion, Leicester are still not certain to be champions. They need to win in the remaining two matches in order to arrive in the Premier League next season as Championship champions.
