Bayern Munich defeat Wolfsburg 2-0 in week 33 of the German League this season. Even though they went down with a back-up team, Die Roten was still superior to their guests.

Playing at the Allianz Arena, Sunday (12/5/2024), Bayern took the lead from the 4th minute. Lovro Zvonarek received Alphonso Davies’ cross then fired a low shot which hit the post before finding the back of the Wolfsburg goal guarded by Koen Casteels.

The hosts’ lead increased in the 13th minute. Thomas Mueller, who received the ball from a sweep from Wolfsburg’s back line, then gave a short pass to Leon Goretzka, who accurately shot into the top right corner to rattle Casteels’ goal.

Bayern almost increased their lead in the 18th minute after Bryan Zaragoza broke through Wolfsburg’s goal. However, referee Bastian Dankert disallowed the goal after Video Assistant Raferee stated that Mueller, who provided the assist first, was caught offside.

Wolfsburg tried to put up resistance, but Patrick Wimmer’s long-range shot in the 22nd minute was saved by Manuel Neuer. The veteran goalkeeper also blocked Jonas Wind’s long-range shot in the 43rd minute.

In the second half, Zaragoza had a chance with a close-range shot in the 56th minute, but this time Casteels managed to thwart it. After that, there were no more significant opportunities created by either team. The score 2-0 closed this match.

The additional three points make Bayern sit in second place in the standings with 72 points. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg, which is safe from the relegation zone, is in 12th place with 37 points. Bayern will face Hoffenheim in the final week, while Wolfsburg will meet Mainz.
