– We know nothing and only hear rumours, and are not sure what has happened. We feel there is a nasty atmosphere in the city, says Willy Kristiansen.

He owns the Corner store, which is directly across the street from where a woman was found dead on Tuesday morning.

The police have still not disclosed what happened. It creates an insecurity in the city, he says.

– It is very eerie and frightening that we are going to experience this in a peaceful southern town.

You can read this in this case:

On Tuesday morning, police and health personnel rushed to Boots’ pharmacy in Arendal following a report of a seriously injured person.

– Life-saving first aid was attempted, but unfortunately lives could not be saved, says police attorney Vanja Bruvoll in the Agder police district to NRK.

The police are treating it as a suspicious death.

Relatives have been notified.

Deploy all resources

The police are treating the incident as if the worst thing imaginable had happened, says police attorney Bruvoll.

– We work on the basis of two theories, accident or criminal offence. We have deployed all resources to the site.

The police are investigating the case widely, by, among other things, checking camera surveillance and questioning witnesses.

– The resources that are used are used for the good of the citizens. We will provide more information if we think it is necessary for the residents, assures Bruvoll.

Asking witnesses to get in touch

The police received a report of an injured person at around 09.30 on Tuesday morning.

People who have been in the pedestrian area in Arendal on Tuesday morning are asked to get in touch.

Investigations the police have carried out so far show that the death took place at Boots Pharmacy between 08.45 and 09.15 on Tuesday morning.

The police said on Tuesday afternoon that the incident must have happened during opening hours, but would not say whether it happened inside or outside the pharmacy.

The police say there is a low threshold for making contact if someone thinks they have seen something.

Forensic technicians are working at the scene and parts of Arendal’s center are still cordoned off.

Sent for autopsy

The woman who died has been sent to the Forensic Institute in Oslo for an autopsy.

This is what police attorney Vanja Bruvoll tells NRK.

– We expect a preliminary report in one to two days, she says.

The police have been sparing with information in the case, and say the autopsy report can give a clearer picture of what has happened.

– For the time being, we will not release any more information until tomorrow morning, says Bruvoll.

Around 16.30 the woman who died was carried out of the pharmacy in Arendal. The woman will be transported to the Forensic Institute in Oslo for an autopsy.

– A very heavy day

Mayor of Arendal Robert Cornels Nordlid says the incident has made an impression on him.

– My thoughts go out to those closest to me. Today is a very hard day.

Also earlier today, a dead person was found in the sea at Vindholmen outside Arendal.

– It is very special that we have two such tragic cases at once. It is important to stand together and take care of each other.
