YB wins 1-0 against Lausanne-Sport in the Super League – Sport

The Super League leaders have proven that the 1-0 defeat against Basel a week ago was just a blip. After the 5-1 win against Yverdon, the Young Boys celebrated their next win against a opponent from the lower table region with a 1-0 win against Lausanne-Sport.

The Bernese were no longer in the mood to score goals in Vaud as they were during the week. An early goal from Ebrima Colley was to be the first and last of this game: after a failed throw-in from Lausanne, the guests reacted quickly and switched gears in the 8th minute. Cedric Itten played a through ball to the fast Colley. In his first attempt, the Gambian was denied by goalie Karlo Letica, but Colley converted the follow-up shot to make it 1-0.

Afterwards, nothing came from the leader for a while. The Vaudois, who have been waiting for a win since the end of November, played bravely and had header chances through Kaly Sène (12th) and Noë Dussenne (17th/21st). It was only towards the end of the first half that YB kept the home team better in check with high balls and set pieces, appeared more dominant and thus took over the reins at the Stade de la Tuilière.

Ganvoula’s goal doesn’t count

After the break, the two teams came out of the dressing room wide awake, and the 6,000 spectators – including Nati coach Murat Yakin – saw opportunities on both sides. In the 53rd minute Itten was denied by Letica, who reacted strongly, and just a minute later David von Ballmoos was also able to score against Simone Pafundi in the goal on the other side.

The Young Boys came dangerously in front of the goal a few more times, but were no longer able to celebrate a valid goal. Shortly before the end, Silvère Ganvoula supposedly made it 2-0, but after his nice lob over the Lausanne goalkeeper his hand was still in the game. The VAR logically intervened and revoked the goal.

Benito substituted injured

The leader celebrated a mini-victory away from home and at least temporarily beat his distant pursuer Servette by 9 points. However, the victory in Lausanne had one downside: Defense chief Loris Benito was injured after just 5 minutes and had to be substituted with a limp. In the second half, the national team player returned to the stadium with crutches; on Sunday it was announced that he had torn his cruciate ligament.

This is how it goes

Both teams will be back in action next Saturday. At 6 p.m. Lausanne hosts the derby at Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy, at 8:30 p.m. YB has to travel to FC Lugano in Ticino (live on SRF).
