Gives Covid-19 a CoDe-19: this is the name of the experiment set up by eNovia and the Brescia Civil Hospital on behalf of the European Space Agency.
The project is named after the disease caused by the coronavirus because it seeks to respond to some problems highlighted by the pandemic, which requires minimizing personal contacts and keeping distance to reduce the risk of contagion: it is based on a system designed for the so-called contactless delivery based on a self-driving mini vehicle capable of delivering both outdoors and indoors. Has a robotic arm which guarantees a totally contactless service, from the loading phase to the receipt of the medical material: the delivery complies with the safety standards required in the hospital environment and can only be finalized by the recipient of the shipment, the only one authorized to unlock the vehicle and activate the robotic arm for package release.
At the moment, eNovia is testing the solution within the hospital campus of the Spedali Civili of Brescia; subsequently the two scenarios envisaged are the following:
- delivery of laboratory materials and sensitive goods from the internal pharmacy to the laboratories analysis;
- delivery of medicines from the internal pharmacy to the entrances of different pavilions.

What does the ESA have to do with it?
The eNovia vehicle, which can be considered a kind of ground drone, relies on various systems to maintain contact with the control room and to follow the correct delivery route:
- the internal artificial intelligence system for autonomous driving;
- the satellite positioning system for open spaces (GNSS), supplied by the European Space Agency.
