TRENTO. A new “local medicine” to allow citizens to resort to the care they need as close to home as possible. The outlines of the Trentino health reform were presented by the provincial health councilor, by the general director of the provincial health services company Antonio Ferro and by the general manager of the Health Department Giancarlo Ruscitti to the members of the Health Council in which the representatives of the third sector participate.
The reform – approved in pre-adoption by the Executive – will subsequently be illustrated to the Healthcare Council and to the trade unions, before reaching the fourth commission before final approval. The commissioner highlighted how the pandemic has highlighted the strengths and criticalities of the Trentino health system with the valley hospitals and the local health system, which will be strengthened and enhanced to meet the needs of patients in all territories.
The reorganization – pointed out the exponent of the Giunta – not only takes into account the emergencies that must be resolved in the short term, but looks at fundamental issues such as the shortage of doctors and health personnel, in particular as regards the areas that are most distant from the most populous centers. From this point of view, family medicine – to which various and fundamental actors belong – will have a central role within the various areas of the valley, while the integrated group medicines will be established on a voluntary basis and will have the advantage of offering the specialist visits also remotely with telemedicine.
These are initiatives that also aim to encourage the stay in the provincial territory of young doctors who will be trained by the School of Medicine. Finally, the so-called “polycentric hospital” will have the purpose of enhancing the various facilities present in the area from a network perspective that favors a high level of specialization of health professionals.
