“Extreme” solar storm generates Northern Lights also in Italy: spotted from Venice to Rome, it hasn’t happened since 2003

A strong solar storm, which generated spectacular aurora borealis, hit the earth on the night between Friday and Saturday and could persist in the skies even on the night between Saturday and Sunday. It is the first “extreme” geomagnetic storm (level 5 on a scale of 5) since 2003, according to the US Weather Prediction Center of the NOAA-National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
