The St. Louis Cardinals have secured infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman for another two years, as they aim to avoid a salary arbitration hearing. The 28-year-old will embark on his sixth season with the team, with Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak praising Edman’s fundamentals, athleticism, and versatility as invaluable assets to the team’s identity.
Selected by St. Louis in the 2016 MLB Draft, Edman has proven to be a key player for the team, hitting .248 with 13 home runs and leading in stolen bases with 27. He also showcased his versatility by starting in various positions, including shortstop, second base, center field, and right field, and was named a finalist for the National League Gold Glove Award for the third consecutive season.
In 2021, Edman was recognized with the Gold Glove Award as a second baseman. The Cardinals are undoubtedly pleased to have secured Edman’s services for the upcoming seasons, as they look to build on their team’s success.
