The complete Eintracht PK after the game in Dortmund
Video End of video post
Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a defeat on Sunday evening. The Bundesliga game at Borussia Dortmund ended 1:2 (1:1) from Eintracht’s point of view. Mario Götze gave Frankfurt the lead (13th minute), Karim Adeyemi equalized for BVB (33rd). Mats Hummels (80th) and Emre Can (90th + 3/foul penalty) ensured the home win.
Leadership from nothing
BVB dominated the game from the start and had their first approaches to the goal from distance through Marco Reus (7th minute) and Ian Maatsen (11th). But then, out of nowhere, Eintracht struck: Nico Schlotterbeck misjudged a freeing shot from Willian Pacho, which gave Marmoush the opportunity to run alone towards BVB keeper Alexander Meyer. He was able to parry the first shot, but Mario Götze grabbed the rebound and scored from almost 20 meters in his old place of work – 1-0 for the guests.

However, Dortmund remained in control. First, Adeyemi got a cross past Kevin Trapp, but not past Robin Koch, who was able to clear it for a corner in desperate need (17′). Just a minute later, Trapp parried against Reus. Niclas Füllkrug headed the rebound onto the goal, but Pacho was able to save in front of the line.
Adeyemi slides in easily
In the 33rd minute, however, the deserved equalizer came: Donyell Malen let Niels Nkounkou out on the wing and Adeyemi was able to easily push his cross over the line to make it 1-1. Nothing came from Eintracht in the first half. Dortmund remained superior, but without any further major chances.
The Frankfurt team at least started the second half with an advance: Junior Dina Ebimbe tested Meyer, who had no problems with the misplaced shot (51′). Then the game from the first half continued: Eintracht left the ball to Dortmund, defended with concentration and waited for counter-attacks, especially from Marmoush.

After the second half dragged on for a long time without any great chances, Eintracht were once again dangerous. Marmoush shot from close range, Meyer was just able to raise his arms and fend off the ball (68th). It wasn’t until the 71st minute that BVB had their first significant opportunity in the second half – Malen, however, fired a long-range shot from a half-right position well past the far corner.
A standard situation then decided the game: Julian Brandt brought a free-kick cross into the penalty area, Hummels headed it in (80′). Shortly afterwards, Can was initially shown a red card for a foul, but according to the video images, referee Tobias Stieler withdrew the dismissal (86′). Can, of all people, made the final score 3-1 in stoppage time with a penalty kick (Koch to Jamie Bynoe-Gittens).
With the win, BVB in fourth place is now ten points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt, while Leipzig in fifth place is nine points away. The delicate Hessian hopes of participating in the Champions League in the coming season have been severely dampened.
