Jimena Riesco, number 17 of the MIR 2024, has made her mark at the Madrid College of Physicians by choosing the specialty of Family and Community Medicine as the first R1 of this MIR edition. Hailing from Ćvila, Jimena comes from a family of doctors and has always been drawn to Family Medicine.
After completing her six-year degree at the Complutense University of Madrid, Jimena knew that Family Medicine was the right path for her. Despite the negative reputation that the specialty sometimes carries, she is determined to prove its value and sees it as a field with vast potential for growth and development.
Jimenaās journey as a Family Medicine resident will include rotations through various specialties and settings, providing her with a well-rounded training experience. She will have the opportunity to work closely with patients, gaining in-depth knowledge and skills in different areas of healthcare.
One of the highlights of Jimenaās residency will be the in-person election of her training center and tutor, a unique experience that many MIRs look forward to. The support and guidance she will receive from her mentors at the Multiprofessional Teaching Unit will be crucial in shaping her career in Family Medicine.
Aurora FernĆ”ndez, the head of studies at the Teaching Unit, is proud of Jimenaās decision to pursue Family Medicine and sees it as a challenge to empower the specialty and ensure its success. She emphasizes the importance of a patient-centered approach and continuous learning for residents in Family Medicine.
