40,000 spectators made the Lucerne city run an unforgettable experience
13,052 runners lined up at the starting line of the Lucerne City Run on Bahnhofsrasse, and 12,992 ultimately finished on Kapellplatz. Pleasant spring temperatures with lots of sunshine attracted 40,000 spectators to Lucerne’s old town. “With 14,038 people registered, our expectations were fully met,” Andreas Grüter, the managing director of the Lucerne City Run, was quoted as saying in a press release.
The family category with 6,450 registered participants once again represented the main challenge of the city run. The number of company groups is also very pleasing, with 2,700 registered. The student categories were also popular, which helped bring the event back to the folk festival.
From the perspective of the police and the medical department, the event went off without any major incidents. Two people had to be hospitalized.
Die Altstadt Classic Like last year, Roman Renner from Meierskappel won the men’s race over 3,850 km in 11.15 minutes. Last year’s winner Amy Leibundgut from Sarnen also won the women’s competition in 13.45 minutes.
At Musegg Classic With a length of 7.0 km, Florian Lussy impressively demonstrated his speed stability. The man from Nidwalden from Stans-Oberdorf won in a time of 21.56 minutes.
The crowning finale was once again the Young elite (U18/U20), which had to complete three laps and a total distance of 2,470 km. Gian Baggenstoss from Vers-chez-Perrin mastered the U20 men’s field in a time of 7.20 minutes. Hugo Witteveen (Vessy) won the U18 men’s category in 7.23 minutes. Fiona von Flüe won the women’s U18 category. The woman from Cham had a thrilling photo finish with the winner of the women’s U20, Shirin Kerber from Kehrseiten. Both are listed with a winning time of 8.08 minutes.
Participation record in the solidarity run
The traditional solidarity run had a record number of participants with 308 participants. This year, all of the proceeds will benefit the Central Switzerland Cancer League. Lucerne government councilor Michaela Tschuor was the honorary starter.
