With the increase in the vaccination rate for the 2019-nCoV, New Zealand has decided to abandon the zero-clearing policy for coronavirus cases and switch to coexistence with the virus.
In announcing the news at a press conference, New Zealand Prime Minister Ardern said that due to the widespread spread of the delta mutant virus, it is very difficult to zero cases. She said that it is sooner or later to change the epidemic prevention policy, and the wave of outbreaks caused by the Delta virus has accelerated the process. At the same time, rising vaccination rates also support this decision.
Ardern also announced that Auckland, the largest city with a population of 1.7 million, will be unblocked in phases. From the day after tomorrow (6th), locals will be able to go out, with a maximum of ten in each group.
New Zealand today (4th) notified 29 new cases, increasing the cumulative number of cases in this wave of epidemics by 1,357. Most of the cases are from Auckland.
So far, about 48% of the eligible population in New Zealand has completed the COVID-19 vaccination.
