Belgian police began exhuming the bodies of 17 of the 262 victims of the 1956 tragedy in the Bois du Cazier coal mine in Marcinelle. These are 17 miners who have never been formally identified. As many as 136 of the 262 dead were Italians.
The initiative, which aims to finally give those people a name, was taken by Michele Cicora, son of one of the nameless dead, the federal police said.
