In August 2021, cyclical growth is estimated for retail sales (+ 0.4% both in value and in volume). The increase in sales of non-food goods (+ 0.7% in value and + 0.8% in volume) is accompanied by a substantial stationarity for foodstuffs (+ 0.1% in value and -0.1% in volume ). Istat notes it. On a trend basis, in August 2021, retail sales increased by 1.9% in value and 1.0% in volume. The trend of non-food goods is positive (+ 3.2% in value and + 2.0% in volume) while food is growing in value (+ 0.5%) but slightly down in volume (-0.3% ).
In the quarter June-August 2021, in conjunctural terms – still notes Istat – retail sales increased by 0.8% in value and 0.5% in volume. Sales of non-food goods grew both in value (+ 1.3%) and in volume (+ 1.1%), while for food goods there was a slight increase in value (+ 0.2%) and a slight decrease in volume (-0.3%). Among non-food goods, there are positive trend changes for almost all product groups, with the exception of Household tools and hardware (-2.2%), Furniture, textiles, furnishings (-0.2%) and Clothing and fur (0.0%). The biggest increases relate to household appliances, radio, TV and tape recorders (+ 20.5%) and Other products (+ 8.2%). Compared to August 2020, the value of retail sales grows in all distribution channels: large-scale distribution (+ 1.2%), businesses operating on small surfaces (+ 1.2%), sales outside of stores (+ 2.3%) and e-commerce (+ 20.7%).
