Tim Schäfer lives and works in New York.
Stock market millionaire Tim Schäfer made around 10,000 percent profit with Netflix shares. He bought the shares in 2012 for 5,000 euros, and their value rose to several hundred thousand euros. The positive share price development is due to Netflix Originals, international expansion and growing subscriber numbers.
Tim Schäfer is considered one of the best-known financial bloggers and private investors in Germany. The stock market millionaire has lived in New York since 2006 – near the famous Wall Street, as he tells Business Insider in an interview. We sat down with the well-known investor at the “Invest” event at Messe Stuttgart last weekend.
He revealed that his most successful investment grew by around 10,000 percent. He explains: “It was Netflix. I bought the shares for 5,000 euros and then they exploded.”
He bought Netflix in 2012, he says. At that time the price was 7.40 euros, as data from Finanz.net shows. The share now costs around 520 euros.

The value has increased to several hundred thousand euros, which corresponds to an enormous return. He specifies: “Basically, I have a profit of around 10,000 percent on this investment.”
The continuous expansion of the Netflix offering with popular and award-winning original content (Netflix Originals), the expansion into international markets and the growing number of subscribers have contributed significantly to the positive share price development.
But the price development was not without volatility. The fluctuations in the course of the share price are influenced by, among other things, economic cycles, changes in the competitive landscape, such as Disney, and variable subscriber numbers.
