Facebook changes its name and “from today it becomes Meta”. This was announced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the annual Connect conference. “The metaverse is the next chapter of the internet, it is made to connect people and Horizon is the platform we are building”, were the words of Zuckerberg. The new name therefore focuses on the metaverse, the idea that users will live, work and exercise within a virtual universe where the Oculus virtual reality viewers and service are an instrumental part of the realization of this vision. Facebook’s original app and service are expected to remain unchanged in their branding, positioned under a parent company that has other brands of billions of users like Instagram and WhatsApp. A move similar to the one carried out by Google that in recent years created the parent company Alphabet Inc.
